One of my student's parents underpaid me this month. What an awkward thing, to ask for more money.
3BK played pretty well tonight--and with tons of wind! I don't know the final score; I think it was semi-close, like 16-10 or something, but we got the win. Now I'm feeling inexplicably sad. It's a Takk...night.
(Probably I'm just tired.)
EDIT: I just counted, and I got 82 happy birthday wishes on facebook. I don't want to keep pushing the birthday thing, but that makes me feel better tonight :)

If I were a mode, I would be Lydian. The raised 4th scale degree makes pieces sound super-charged!!!
Here are some examples of Lydian mode:
Rainbow Road
Flying in a Blue Dream
Romanian Polka (at 3:30)
Snowy Valley
The Simpsons

EDIT: I said that my scholarship has been increased. I was mistaken--it was always that high. Whoops!
I had a dream last night that my parents bought me a cocker spaniel. I didn't really understand why, but I was pretty happy about it.
How cute!
Also, look at this winner of a spam-mail (aka spamail):

Really? You can try harder than that. C'mon now.

Happy Bob Marley Friday!
The other day Paul meant to type <3 to me--in the context of a number less than three. It made a little heart instead. Ah, non-romantic ambitions foiled again.
I got my camera back, finally able to upload all my pictures from spring break. Sigh. I miss it already.
I cannot for the life of me bring myself to go back to school to practice today. Some days are like that. Should I fight it?

So today was my last day in Florida. Everyone has been saying, "But Ashley...you just got here!" It's true. Spring break is unfortunately meant to be what it is called--a break.
I am satisfied with what I have done here. I got to spend a lot of time with my family and friends, and I got a chance to go to my beloved beach twice. That's really all I wanted, so I'm happy.
I just watched The Time Traveler's Wife with my parents (well, really only with my dad, since my mom lasted about 3 minutes before falling asleep. A pity too--I think she would have liked it.). It was a difficult one for me to see the day before I leave home once again. I find myself identifying with the "time traveler"--I feel like I travel a lot too. Maybe not through time, but does that really make a difference? As soon as you travel away, you're away. And I feel that I am always leaving. It's something I have mentioned in my blog many times, something I have often struggled with.
The moral of the movie was basically this: make the most of the time that you have with the ones that you love.

Beach fail. Too cold, too cloudy. Instead we went to Steak n' Shake and played cards for two hours and then wandered around Toys R Us like the overgrown children that we are. All of that sounds so typical of this crowd...
Beach tomorrow. I promised myself. AND I bought bathing suits.
I have to get up in 6 hours to play some flute and show off for my high school. I'm in the middle of learning these pieces, so we'll see how THAT goes.
Derp.

My students all struck out today. 0 for 3. Remind me why I didn't leave for Florida last Friday?
My scrapes hurt. I need to wake up in 5 hours. I'm traveling all day on St. Patrick's Day. Not that I ever celebrated the holiday much anyway (except in 5th grade, when my teacher celebrated it all week, calling it "Jolly Green Week." She was an interesting one.) My layover is in Cleveland (?). I wish I could just teleport to Florida. Firefox doesn't think teleport is a word. Shows what they know.
Okay. Time for bed.

My body is breaking down. My face and neck are badly sunburnt and currently peeling, my leg muscles are sore from 3 straight days of savage ultimate, and I've got some very nasty scrapes and bruises from another failed layout last night on this unforgiving ground.
(Big Nate lied to me. FYI: Hydrogen peroxide hurts. A lot.)
The good news is, I'll be in Florida in 28 hours! I bought some new bathing suits and I am ready to beach it up!!! Just don't expect me to look the best ever. When I say nasty scrapes, I mean nasty scrapes.

I always feel like listening to oldies when the weather is wonderful. I know everyone says this, but they just don't make music like they used to. This is yet another love instilled in me by my dad. Oldies are where it's at.
I found a compilation at the music library--two discs called "Pop Music: The Golden Era 1951-1975." The 50's are generally too old for my taste, but disc 2 has 24 songs from the 60's and early 70's. This is what I grew up listening to, and in a way it's my genre of musical "home." And as a 4'11" chickadee once said, there's no place like home.

Haha, AZ doesn't lose an hour today. NOOBS.
Also, yesterday at the tournament, I had the strangest urge for about two hours to yell out "BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION!" I didn't do it only because I'm not exactly sure what happened in the Bolshevik Revolution, and it might have ended up being some kind of offensive to someone. But I REALLY wanted to.

"Is Eshley going to beek some ceekies?"
Great day yesterday. Hiked South Mountain with PA. It was stunning, beautiful, like another world. The stuff that dream are made of.
Great night last night. Almost like old times, playing Quelf with a group of friends and laughing our heads off.
Great day today, playing in a hat tournament in perfect--I mean PERFECT--weather.
Spring break has begun, friends!

Prof. Amsler (aka PA) is in town! How exciting!
This weekend: Hat tourney all day on Sat, PHX-ation practice and pickup on Sunday, and league on Monday. I'm going to die of ultimate! But that's the way I like it.
Florida is so close. One more week before I leave. It's at my fingertips. Ich kann nicht warten!

Well, with my boyfriend at the Grand Canyon for the day and pickup canceled, you'd think that I'd have tons of time to do as much work as I want today. But it just doesn't happen. Don't get me wrong--I went to church, had a rehearsal with my pianist, practiced for an hour, applied to Brevard (a last minute decision the day before it's due), folded laundry, cleaned my room and bathroom, and went grocery shopping. That's a lot. But I still have so much more to do (namely three more hours of practice).
Time time time. What AM I going to do with you?

Texting while driving: not okay. Everyone knows this one.
Texting while biking: definitely not okay. Also listening to an iPod while biking. Um, you should probably be able to hear the world around you in case, you know, a car is about to run you over or something. Just sayin'.
Texting while walking: still not okay. You guys would be astounded at the percentage of students who walk around campus with their eyes down, glued to a phone. First of all, this greatly increases their chances of running into objects or other people (or, the most annoying to me, block the entire sidewalk without knowing it!). Second of all...there's a world people! You live in it! Jeez!
-------------------------------------
3BK won big tonight, 15-4, but collectively as a group we just looked terrible. It's a good thing we were playing an easy team, otherwise we would have felt it tonight.
